RBC British Airways Visa Infinite to Launch this Week

12 February 2012

Out of luck I came across some interesting last week on the forum of Red Flag Deals, which was the announcement of the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite being launched in February 2012; after looking into the topic I found that it the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite will be launched on February 15th, 2012.

The RBC British Airways Visa Infinite is in fact replacing the current RBC British Airways Platinum Visa.

What does the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite rewards program offer?

Like with the RBC British Airways Platinum Visa, the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite allows you to collect Avios points. I have compiled the reward system information in the table below (it is a table that compares itself to the RBC British Airways Platinum Visa)

RBC British Airways Platinum VisaRBC British Airways Visa Infinite
Earn Rate-1 Avios for every $1 CAD spent on the card.
-Double Avios for every $1 CAD spent on the card on British Airways flights.
-1 Avios for every $1 CAD spent on the card.
-Double Avios for every $1 CAD spent on the card on British Airways flights.
Anniversary Bonus2,500 Avios pointsNone
Welcome Bonus10,000 Avios pointsNothing has been stated yet

If you are familiar with the RBC British Airways Platinum Visa, you will realize that the rewards program is the exact same with a few differences. One difference is that it the welcome bonus is not listed as to whether it will be present in the new RBC British Airways Visa Infinite, however I am hopeful that it will be, simply because I do not see RBC erasing such a feature (this feature is basic for any premium credit card).

What other benefits does the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite include?

One new feature is the Companion Award Ticket Voucher; when yous pend $30,000 or more on your RBC British Airways Visa Infinite account in a calendar year, you will receive a voucher for a Companion Award Ticket. You can use it to bring someone with your (same flight and class of service and cabin) the next time your book a reward flight with British Airways. A calendar year refers to the time period starting from January 1st, to December 31st in the same year.

Another benefits is the complementary concierge service, which is available to your 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

The insurance coverage remains unchanged; you get;

  • 31-day out of country/ province medical insurance
  • purchase security
  • extended warranty,
  • auto rental collision/ loss damage insurance
  • hotel/ motel burglary insurance
  • flight delay insurance
  • emergency purchase insurance

Is the upgrade to the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite worth having?

The Companion Award Ticket Voucher is a nice feature to have, the threshold is not high at all in my opinion.

However, you would think that with an infinite card, the insurance coverage would be more than what it is., especially when you consider the annual fee being $!65. I am not asking for much, trip cancellation at the very least to be honest would be nice.

The missing rewards feature that disapoints me the most is the fact that there has been no mention of the renewal bonus; in fact on RFD, it was revealed that the bonus was discontinued.

Other than that, the new RBC British Airways Visa Infinite is a pretty good credit card, and if you already hold the RBC British Airways Platinum Visa, then you will be automatically upgraded to the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite.

What do you think of the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite?

This doesn’t seem like a good deal considering you can do the avion to Avios 1.5x points transfer twice a year anyways just using the avion infinite or platinum. I do like the idea of a renewal bonus though.

I like the renewal bonus as well, but from what I have found, that bonus may not be included in the new card. I am hoping that when it is launched there will be a renewal bonus.

as I mentioned i have applied for this card and turned down even thou I now have an Avion card and pay my statement off each month, they won’t give me one as I don’t make more than $60,000/yr. They should go on my great credit rate instead of what my income is – I could have $$$$$$ in the bank, but my income isn`t to their liking, why not.

It is difficult to book the overseas flights from Canada. I look for flights 6 months prior to departure and there were no seats available. Used my points to pay for the hotel but I will not be able to use companion fare.
