TD Canada Trust Fresh Green Preview

16 March 2011

A bank’s website is an extension of the service they provide, therefore the quality of the site is extremely important. The majority of people tend to only visit their bank’s website to get whatever banking they need done. However, I have found that once a site looks appealing, people take the time to go through various products.

Having said that, TD Canada Trust it brightening up their look to include sharper colors, which includes a fresh new shade of green. As it stands the colors on the site are not very bright, I would even go as far as to say it is a tad dull.

As you can see below, the current color scheme for TD Canada Trust’s website is definitely not that appealing, especially when you have other websites showing off a bright blue (RBC) or bright red (CIBC) in their color schemes.

It is never bad to spruce up the image of the site, and with the color update, I find that the site does give off a better feel to it. TD Canada Trust has been providing a solid website, with the overall functionality and content being on par with its competitors. Having said that, at the moment TD Canada Trust is not changing any of the functionality or content that clients have come to expect.

The navigation bats are given much sharper colors, and the tabs and menus are far brighter with vivid colors. It adds a nicer feel to the site in my opinion.

This fresh new look is something that has been needed on TD Canada Trust’s site for a long time. In all honesty, this color change is very much appreciated, and i especially love how everything seems to pop out at you. I completely disagree that this is in any way a ‘good’ update.  The site looks stale and needs a complete information architecture revamp.  It does nothing to help me find information.  Slapping a new coat of paint on a house that needs major renovations should not be applauded.  I hope other banks do a much better job if they complete updates of their sites.

I find it is a good update for what it is. Yes they are pretty much slapping a new coat of paint, but this kind of update gives the overall website a fresher feeling. I definitely agree that there are definitely a few major things that should be done. At this point I am looking at this updated look as a prequel to what may come in the near future.

I’ve been using the TD Canada Trust website pretty much since it’s launch. Granted their old colors weren’t flashy, but I did prefer them to the new colors! The new colors are such an eyesore! It’s like they’re just trying to pick vibrant colors that contrast with eachother, regardless of how horrible those colors are. Lime green? really?

The new look has been unfinished for quite some time now. Some buttons and logos they use are the same old ones from the old color scheme, and they just don’t belong anymore because they were made for the green background, not white. The logout button for instance has a rough dark green edge around it from the old site…

All in all, I wish I had the old site back.

To be honest I do like the fresh look they are offering, but you are right, for people who may have been happy with the way things looked before, they should offer some sort of option to allow people to choose between color schemes. That way they please all audiences.
