New research by the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) suggests that recession weary Canadians are divided on the future of the country’s economy; however there is much more hope for the year ahead.
According to the data, 60% of people across Canada feel that the national economy will improve in 2010 after 2009 being spent in a recessionary hangover from the global financial meltdown of 2008.
The results of the national survey questioned Canadians on a number of issues which include how they felt about job security.
The RBC data shows that 21% of Canadians are worried that someone in their immediate household is in danger of losing their job.
This number is down from the 27% in the previous month, which is a good sign that the number of people who feel endangered by layoffs is decreasing as the economy begins to grow again.
The survey, which is the RBC’s Canadian Consumer Outlook was based on an online survey of 1,018 Canadians aged 18 and older holding a margin of error was 3.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
The overall results were positive as prospects around the globe are improving, with growth prospects in Canada also improving as well.
