CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Card

15 April 2009

visa card aventura infinite en 150x116 CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite CardI was having a brain fart today; I mentioned it on Bank Nerd’s twitter account. I decided the only way to get out of this funk was to go for a walk and on my walk I picked up my mail. Typical junk mail tossed in with some love mail from ex lovers (I speak the truth!). Then I stumbled upon the brand new CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Card. Now personally I am not a huge fan of CIBC, great offers upfront but in the long term I’m a bit skeptical. I was in the CIBC building in Toronto the other week and I felt like I was walking into fire… or maybe that was because of the reddish tiles they have from floor to ceiling. Someone should suggest to them to leave the 80′s behind.

The CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Card, is designed for people who want the ultimate in flexible reward options, this premium card brings you one step closer to numerous valuable Aventura Rewards options every time you use it to make a purchase.

If you apple today (or until May 19th 2009) you’ll receive 15,000 Bonus Aventura Points (which cannot be used with any other bonus offer) – redeemable for unrestricted flight rewards and more! You will receive 50% more Aventura Points at gas, grocery and drug stores. Plus, you will receive one Aventura Point for every dollar charged to the card at all other locations.

…what happened I just blanked out…

The CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Card has all the features and benefits of our (CIBC) current CIBC Aventura Gold Visa Card, Plus… wait for it, they have more added advantages! Well its nothing much some Travel Medical Insurance for the first 15 days (if you’re under 65) but a cool feature that caught my eye. Was the Flexibility to spend over your credit limit without having to pay an over limit fee. Keep this card away from those shopaholic wives and crazy girlfriends, especially if they are upset with you.

Plus, I know too many pluses but seriously there is a lot to say. Enjoy all the expected premium credit card advantages such as a credit limit of at least $10,000, Flight delay and Baggage Insurance.

I was mailed this lovely application by M. Giles Vice-President of CIBC Card Products Division. Obviously I know he didn’t actually personally mail it to me but I love to dream.

Interested in knowing what the interest rate is at? Current Annual Interest Rate = 19.5%

Want more then one card? An additional $50 each per year, up to a maximum of 3

Annual Fee = $120

i’m trying to decide between CIBC Aventura visa infinite vs RBC avion visa infinite.
how do they compare in terms of reward travel? ability to upgrade to business class? # airlines? best bank for $$ in terms of reward points for flight

i currently own the CIBC aerogold visa infinite and booking a flight via aeroplan is next to impossible – black out periods, and you usually end up w/ flights w/ multiple stopovers (or it’ll cost you double or triple # aeroplan points)

With the CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite you will have to call in to an Aventura representative to book your flights; you give them the date of your departure and they will find you the best flight for your points.

Now with the RBC Visa Infinite Avion you can book flights with your reward points online with their travel agency. They use Carlson Wagonlit services and have a wide array of airlines and seats available.

Both of these credit cards are far more flexible than to your current credit card (CIBC Aerogold Visa Infinite) in terms of seats and airlines you can use.

Now the best bank for your money in terms of rewards is a bit harder to determine.

With the CIBC Aventure Visa Infinite you are getting a bonue of 15,000 Aventura Points (equivalent to $15,000) and for every $1 you spend you get 1 Aventura point, and 1.5 Aventura Points for every $1 spent at gas stations, grocery and drug stores (up to $80,000 in purchases per year)

With the RBC Visa Infitnie Avion you earn 1 RBC Points for every $1 you spend and 1.25 RBC Points for every $1 spent through booking with their travel agency. You earn a bonus of 2,500 RBC Points upon renewal each year and you get a bonus of 15,000 RBC points upone approval.

For booking any flight, with either credit card, the points needed vary depending on the the trip and accomodations you want.

At this point the best choice in terms of rewards points would be the RBC Visa Infinite Avion and for booking travel I find it is easier to do it online than having to call in to speak to a representative.
