People tend to think that a credit card is a piece of plastic where you can make as many purchases as you want and worry about actually paying for them later. This is a misconception many have, and it could lead to financial trouble in the near future and in the long run your financial security.
With the proper knowledge a credit card can be used for many benefits which includes saving money. With an introductory card, you are given an amount of credit which can range $500 and up. This is the total credit you have and it helps you build your credit history and with it you work towards a better credit rating that will save you money on larger purchases; such as a new home or vehicle. Keep in mind, with your credit rating increasing it helps you increase your limit as well.
To build your credit rating all you need to do is pay all of your bills on time and lowering your debt ratio. Another method to increase your credit rating is to have an account balance below 75% of your authorized limit.
Remember it is easier to ruin your credit rating than increase it. Making late payments, running up a balance to the credit limit and having your account sent to a collection agency will have a negative impact and lower your credit rating. Keep in mind, applying for many credit cards in a short period of time implies that you are seeking for credit. Rejection from these cards will lower your rating as well.
A credit card’s interest rate varies from card to card. Depending on your finances at the time you may have to visit various banks to find a card that suits your needs. Managing your credit card properly without gaining interest, involves paying the monthly balance within the card’s grace period. With this you are paying solely what you bought and not any interest you owe the bank. Remember debt is easy to get into, but hard to get out of.
